“In the last days, God said, I will pour out my Holy Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and daughters shall prophecy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men dream dreams.  Yes,the Holy Spirit shall come upon all my servants men and women alike……” (Acts 2:17)

“One day a group of scientists got together and decided that man had come a long way and no longer needed God.  They picked one scientist to go and tell Him that they weredone with Him. The scientist walked up to God and said, “God, we’ve decided that we no longer need you.  We’re to the point that we can clone people and do many miraculous things, so why don’t you just go on and get lost.” God listened patiently and kindly to the man and after the scientist was done talking, God said, “Very well!  How about this?  Let’s have a man making contest.”  To which the man replied, “Ok, great! But God added, “Now we’re going to do this just like I did back in the old days with Adam.”  The scientist said, “Sure, no problem” and bent down and grabbed himself a handful of dirt.  God just looked at him and said, “No, no, no.  You get your own dirt!”

For the past 3 weeks we have been sharing with you about your natural abilities and spiritual gifts. I told you how valuable you were in the eyes of God and how important you were to Him in ministry. You are His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10), His handiwork, His work of art – “ you are one of a kind masterpiece”.  In our quest to discover our gift we must first discover God’s Holy Spirit in us, as Christians, is our greatest gift from God. The Holy Spirit is our unity with God, our source of communication from God, and the guarantee that we are His children.  Who is leading you? “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are Sons of God.- And so we should not be like cringing, fearful slaves, but we should behave like Gods very own children, adopted into the bosom of His family, and, calling to Him, “father, father.  For His Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are really Gods children.  And since we are His children, we share His treasures.  For all God gives to His son Jesus is now ours to”. (Romans 8:14 LV)

The Holy Spirit is promised to those who receive Jesus Christ as Savior.  “Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for remission of sins: and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:38-39)

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Luke 11:13).  The only limitation to God’s Holy Spirit in you is you.  For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. (John 3:34)  The Holy Spirit produces rivers of liquid life inside of you.  “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood up and cried out, saying, “if anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.  “he who believes in Me, as the Scriptures has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. “ But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” (John 7:37-39)

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the prophet of all:…..(1Cor. 12:7) – But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. (1Cor 12:11)

Jesus said in Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lords favor.”

  1. The Holy Spirit shall remain with you forever
  2. 2. The Holy Spirit gives you wisdom
  3. 3. The Holy Spirit gives you understanding
  4. 4. The Holy Spirit gives you counsel
  5. The Holy Spirit gives you power (faith)
  6. 6. The Holy Spirit gives you knowledge
  7. 7. The Holy Spirit gives you delight in the fear of the Lord

(Isaiah 11:1-4 NKJV) “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.  The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and power, The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. His delight is in the fear of the Lord, And He shall not judge by the sight off His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears; But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of His lips shall he slay the wicked.

·     The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him –(Jesus had the Spirit with out measure (John 3:34)

  • Shall descend upon Him, and remain upon Him

“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever; “The Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17 NKJV)

Wisdom –chokmah: Skill and insight, knowledge to accomplish and perform;

The word of wisdom might be defined as a supernatural revelation of the mind and purpose of God communicated by the Holy Spirit that reveals something.

1Corinthians 12:8- for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit…

Understanding – Discernment, the ability to separate and judge righteously truth from falsehood, and good from evil.  To comprehend, have insight, perception, and the ability to use information wisely. 1Corinthians 12:10- …to another discerning of spirits…

Wisdom and understanding are both needed in all types of work and ministry for it to be successful. Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; (Proverbs 24:3). Wisdom is a creative idea, an insight; but understanding is needed to accomplish the goal.  Wisdom may see hidden information, but understanding knows why, and how to deal with the information.

In Exodus 31:25 we read about a man named Bez-alel- “I have filled him The Spirit of God, with ability, intelligence, and knowledge in every kind of craft….”

Counsel- advice, plan, advisement, counsel, purpose 1 Corinthians 12:10…. to another prophecy

Might- force, valor, victory, mastery, might, power, strength

“To another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles….” (1Corinthians 12:9-10)

Counsel and power go together because power is faith, and faith comes by hearing a word from God through the Holy Spirit.  The just shall live by faith because when they receive a word from God through the Holy Spirit they obey and produce fruit that glorifies God.

Knowledge- is the supernatural revelation of the existence, or nature, of a person or thing, or the knowing of some event, given to us by the Holy Spirit for a specific purpose.  Knowledge of the deep things of God, to perceive.  “..To another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit” (1Corinthians 12:8)

  • The fear of God is the beginning of the knowledge of God.  It is impossible to know God without having the most awesome trembling respect of Him.  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7)

Ephesians 1:17-19 NKJV –that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ , the Father of Glory, may give to you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him……”

The reverential fear of God causes us to perfect holiness in our lives, knowing that we will reap what we sow, knowing that God will chastise the children He loves as a good Father does, helps us to stay close to God.  Holiness is delightful because we then have the joy of a clean heart and right relationship with our God.  “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and Spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of the God. (2Cor 7:1)
